Impacts of residencies, workshops and supports on the production and international coproduction
in the region.

Many structures have emerged in the past years to welcome filmmakers from all backgrounds. What are their motivations ? What are the challenges?

What are the needs in the Occitanie Region and what models can be used to develop these precious spaces for sharing practices and creation?

How to answer as closely as possible to producers’ and directors’ needs and build ties during and after these residencies?

To give an answer , several key actors in the region and outside the region, will talk about their experiences.

This workshop will be followed at 2:30 p.m. by Films in manufacturing with the presentation of three co-production projects between Occitania and Latin America, and Studio Cinélatino: return(s) of residence, an exchange with Alice Riff (Brazil ), laureate of the residency organized by Cinélatino for her documentary project, The Policeman and the Priestess.

Fabienne Aguado, artistic director of the Casa de Velasquez - Académie de France in Madrid

She has been plying roles which allowed her to tackle the artistic field -especially cinematographic one in all its dimensions ( the creation , the production and the broadcasting).She was part of the creation at the Moulin d'Andé of the CECI Center for Cinematographic Writing , which she ran from 2005 to 2017. Talents finder , reader , consultant , development advisor , moderator and regular member of juries as part of festivals ,labs and international forums , she collaborated several times with the Festival de Cannes, Cinéfondation and Semaine de la Critique , the CNC , the Torino Film Lab , the Cinémed , the Institur Français . She holds now events of international importance,as well as the festival Viva la Villa ! at the Collection Lambert reuniting great French artist residencies abroad.

La Casa de Velázquez - Académie de France à Madrid

Since it was created, the Casa de Velázquez developed its activities on a unic model, supporting both contemporary artistic creation and scientific researches in humanities and social sciences. The Académie de France in Madrid supervises the artistic actions, in all artistic fields : architecture, plastic arts, cinema, music composition, photography, video…  Place for research and creation, as for life, it allows artists - emerging or renowned – to affirm their work orientation and to experiment new ways of working. The AFM is in charge of the execution of the Casa de Velázquez artistic program, in partnership with many international entities.

 

Dominique Blanc, in charge of residencies at La Maison du Banquet et des Générations in Lagrasse

Anthropologist and engineer in Social Sciences retired from the EHESS, Dominique Blanc is an associate researcher at the Lisst-Centre d'Anthropologie Sociale in Toulouse. He is also a literary translator (from Catalan and Spanish), and a member of the Board of Directors of the association Le Marque-Page.
 

 

Marine Boutroue, general Secretary of La Maison du Banquet et des Générations de Lagrasse

Marine Boutroue has worked in the field of reportage and documentary photography for ten years (Visa pour l'Image, Center Photographique d'Île-de-France, Paris Photo, etc.). She is now general secretary of the Maison du Banquet et des Générations, which organizes residencies dedicated to research and creation each year and co-organizes the Contrechamps documentary meetings in July.

Each year, la Maison du Banquet et des générations welcomes three people from different disciplines in residence for a month, around a common theme, to allow them to create in the best conditions, and to reason (resonate) together.

 

Yoann Guibert, animated film artist residency, Colomiers cultural department

Yoann Gibert joined the Colomiers cultural department in 2015 after obtaining a Master 2 in Administration of Cultural Activities. Alternating between the development and management of projects, he is involved in the programming and coordination of many cultural events in the territory (international cooperation projects, comic strip festival, image education, live shows, etc.). More recently, and in order to pursue Colomiers' commitment in the field of images, he launched an animated cinema residency.

La résidence d’artiste cinéma d’animation

In 2019, Colomiers City decided to expand its intervention field to animated cinema by creating an artist residency. Receiving a young creator for a period of 3 months, their stay is divided in 2 parts : 70% of their time is dedicated to personal work while the other 30% is directed towards animating cinema related workshops. The laureate receives a 6000€ grant, travel tickets, a 1500€ budget for production and communication and an on-site accommodation. This residency is open to francophone professional or in training creators. In the future, the residency wishes to develop productors and artist residents's relationships.
 

Sébastien Lasserre, co-delegate of Gindou cinema and coordinator of La Ruche residency and the feature film writing Residency

Sébastien Lasserre is co-delegate of Gindou cinema and coordinates the two writing residencies developed within Gindou cinema: La Ruche created in 2013 which accompanies 8 self-taught authors each year in the writing of short films, and the Feature film writing residency set up in 2020 for 4 authors from Occitanie.

Gindou Cinéma

Gindou Cinéma is an association that works to promote a cinema that is often not widely shown to a wide audience, especially in rural areas. Beyond the festival which takes place in the summer, the association manages activities geared towards the professional public (Screenwriting residencies, Filmmaking reception office) and towards the local and regional public (education to the image, screenplay competition for young people, exhibition trail on the history and techniques of cinema).

La Ruche, writing residency developped by Gindou cinema offers a course of residencies for writing scripts for short fiction films in 4 stages. Interspersed with film festivals, the program ends with interviews with producers. It is aimed at young authors who have not studied cinema and for whom access to the professional environment is difficult.

In 2020, Gindou Cinéma launched a fiction feature film writing residency supervised by the filmmaker Yves Caumon for four authors from the Occitanie Region.
 

 

Bénédicte Mellac, Coordinator and designer of workshops and development of new projects

Within Groupe Ouest, the European Film Lab based in Brittany, Bénédicte Mellac is in charge of coordinating and designing workshops and developing new projects. She is also in charge of relations with producers for the Breizh Film Fund, an endowment fund created by Groupe Ouest.
Previously, Bénédicte Mellac had created the company Sérénade Productions to produce the first films of directors Laurent Cantet, Gilles Marchand and Dominik Moll.

La Scénario Le Groupe Ouest

Supporting screenwriting, exploring new approaches to facilitate the construction of stories, coaching authors and helping them find their "touch", giving birth to a meaningful story, an
architectural plan for a strong work...
In Brittany, at Groupe Ouest, authors and their projects are given special attention, followed by scriptwriter-consultants with experience in writing coaching in international independent film and audiovisual networks. Over the years, Groupe Ouest has developed a unique approach created by writers for writers in a privileged seaside setting that encourages immersion, collective emulation and open-mindedness. A meticulous organisation so that they can get to the bottom of what they want to tell. Groupe Ouest created Groupe Ouest. Développement to deploy new mechanisms for authors and to encourage their emergence. Groupe Ouest has become the leading place in Europe for coaching filmmakers and the leading place in France for supporting authors in the writing phase.

 

Eric Réginaud, Ciclic Animation policy officer

Involved since the mid-1990s with Center Val de Loire production workshop (APCVL), which became Center Images and then Ciclic in 2012, Eric Réginaud began working in the animation sector at the end of the 1990s, within Le Village production company. Since 2000, he has supervised the APCVL/Centre Images residency for filming short animated films, which became a Ciclic Animation residency in 2015 located in Vendôme. Regularly invited to be part of festival selection committees, he is also a script reader for several structures and has collaborated on animated film projects as production manager and distributor.
 

Résidence Ciclic Animation

In order to support films at all stages of their production, Ciclic created in September 2000, a residency for animated cinema intended for French and international directors in the Centre-Val de Loire region. It is a real cultural facility dedicated to animation cinema, unprecedented in France, which combines the reception of animated film professionals in residence and a program organized during the cultural season for the Vendôme public. Ciclic Animation provides residents (directors and their teams) with the equipment needed to make the films. From three-dimensional animation to computer drawing, including title bench techniques, the premises can accommodate up to 6 projects at the same time.

 

Laila Saidi, co-coordinator of the association Passerelles Occitanie

Laila Saidi is a radio journalist (France Culture, France Inter, RFO/France Télévisions), author and director of documentaries after her training at Lussas documentary school and several fiction writing internships. Her first documentary Habiba obtained the help of Occitanie region, Brouillon d’un rêve de la Scam, the selective help of the CNC and is selected at CINEMED in 2021. She is currently writing her first short fiction film. Laila co-coordinates the Passerelles Occitanie association and its writing residencies.

 

Passerelles Occitanie

Passerelles Occitanie association was created early 2019 to link artists from the video, writing, or every other artistic field potentially able to enrich film creations. Quickly, the association turns to the management of a fiction short movies and features writing residence : the Châtaignes Boost Camp. Successful, late 2021 the association creates another residence : Chemin Faisant, for francophone women writers and directors, working on a first or second fiction feature film project. The team is currently working on the development of a third writing residence, dedicated to documentary films.

 

Annelyse Vieilledent, Co-founder of the residence Les Storygraphes

Since 2005, Annelyse Vielledent has worked to develop international feature films, series and short animation formats. Alongside her job as  artistic producer, she has devoted herself since 2017 to the association Les Storygraphes. Each year, as part of the creation residency, she advises four authors on the writing and development of their digital experience projects.

 

 

Résidence Les Storygraphes

Launched in 2018, the Storygraphes writing residency is aimed at authors of hybrid and/or innovative cultural forms in writing: fiction or documentaries freely associating live and/or audiovisual performances and/or social networks and/or or new technologies. The objective of this residency is to allow projects to gain in maturity and integrate professional development, production and distribution networks.

 

MODERATION

 

Philippe Aussel, President of APIFA (Association of Independent Producers of the Occitanie Region) and producer at Le LoKal Production

Philippe Aussel created Le-loKal Production in 2003 after being editor for 15 years. Along with Cindy Cornic and Cécilia Bernabé he produces creative documentaries for TV and festivals and short films with a strong interest for animation. Le-loKal is meant to be both a breeding ground for creative projects and a qualitative technical tool.

 

 

 

Géraldine Durand-Dosdat, directrice adjointe d’Occitanie Films

Géraldine Durand-Dosdat is the co-director of Occitanie Films. Originally from Toulouse, she worked for 13 years in the cinema and audiovisual sector before joining Occitanie Films (formerly know as Languedoc-Roussillon Cinéma) in 2018. During her ongoing career, she has worked in France and also overseas for almost ten years. Her work experience in various fields of the cinema and audiovisual sector includes film producing in France, cultural diplomacy for the French embassies in Thailand and New York City and movie distribution in Bogota. She also served as programmer for the Cartagena de Indias Film Festival and the Biarritz Latin-American Film Festival.
