Distancia

Tomás Choc is two days and 150Km away of seeing his only daughter Lucía for the first time in 20 years. The Army kidnapped her during the Guatemlaan civil war, when she was only three years old. Despite the pain suffered by her absence Tomás kept a diary of this years of struggle, resistance and survival hoping that this diary will someday get to his daughter’s hands.

Sergio Ramírez

Sergio Ramírez est né au Guatemala en 1978 et a une licence en Sciences de la Communication. Il a écrit et réalisé le court métrage Hoy sí (Aujourd’hui oui) et le documentaire Resistir para vivir, resistir para avanzar (Résister pour vivre, résister pour avancer). Distancia (Distance) est son premier film. Actuellement, il travaille à la postproduction du documentaire El último viaje de Manuel José Arce (Le dernier voyage de Manuel José Arce) tourné en France, en Espagne, au Mexique et au Guatemala.

Production notes

Producciones Concepción is an independent film production company created by Sergio Ramírez and Joaquín Ruano in Guatemala. It has produced the documentaries Resistir para vivir, resistir par avanzar, Panzós 78 and the short film Hoy sí. Distancia was filmed in Guatemala’s mountains in January 2010 with minimum equipment and mixing professional actors and people without acting experience, mostly indigenous. Besides Spanish, two Mayan languages (K’iché and Q’eqchí) are spoken in the film. Right now it is postproducing the documentary El último viaje de Manuel José Arce (Manuel José Arce’s Last Journey), filmed in France, Spain, Mexico and Guatemala.
