Note of intent

Tus manos is an inquiry into human forgiveness in relation to current global challenges of racism and ecological crisis. This timeless battle with ´the other´ and our increasing separation from nature test our human ability to realise ´the other´ and ´nature´ as mirrors of ourselves. By exploring these themes in marginalised places where native and western philosophy meet in dialogue and tension, I search for the origin of spirituality as a place where human and nature work hand in hand.

Synopsis

After losing his entire smallholding to a violent flood, Joaquín – a Wichí native from the Pilcomayo river, seeks to find a new life in the city. When subjected to racial abuse and discrimination, Joaquín commits what he believes to be a fatal violent act, causing him to flee into the jungle where he seeks refuge on an ostrich farm. Pursued by the guilt of his actions, his life is transformed by a mysterious encounter with an armadillo that leaves him with the power to heal. As he tries to connect with his new found gift, the guilt of the same hands having killed continues to internally torture him. As an act of redemption, Joaquín returns to the city, where he discovers that the man he believes to have killed was miraculously saved from a coma by a warm hand coming to rest on his face.

Visual concept

The audiovisual language will be intense, honest and spiritual. My premise is that the camera should always film the interior of man. I will work with non-actors, with the mysterious geography of their faces. One aspect of the film will be intimate and detailed to reach the essence of the main character and the people he is healing. The other will be serene and in movement, like a vision from above,  joining the elements and the sound of nature – the wind, the water and the trees.
