Note of intent

This project is a rewriting of the theater play Amores Surdos. The narrative is a research on new themes and imaginings for contemporary black Brazilian cinema. Encompassing the lives of a black family, it gathers ten characters in its central plot and subjectively and politically discusses  matters related to race, as well as the ways through which Brazilian families experience mourning.

Synopsis

The daily life of a Brazilian family whose members are prevented, due to their struggle for survival, from hearing their griefs and affections.

Visual concept

The house, besides being the setting for almost all of the narrative, is a metaphor for the lethargy of the family living the plot. The progression of a leak on the house ceiling throughout the narrative visually expresses the steps through which a family secret is revealed, as if it had a life of its own.
