When the rainy season begins Helena will give birth. Her adoptive mother and brother gather food and wood in the jungle to take them through the coming weeks of rain and maternity. Others dry fish, some harvest their crops, and in the middle of everyday actions we see stories of pain and loneliness that fill this far-off, inescapable place. The day of rest comes round and the neighbours set out to accompany the birth. The rain starts. Life continues.
Martín Mejía Rugeles
Bogota, 1976. Martín Mejía Rugeles a étudié la réalisation audiovisuelle à l’Université Nationale de Colombie, la théorie et l’histoire du cinéma à l’Université de Concordia à Montréal (Canada), et a obtenu un master en photographie à l’Université de Gotemboug (Suède). En 2004, il obtient le premier prix du Festival de Oberhausen (Allemagne) pour sa thèse Od-El camino. Common Words a obtenu en 2008 le premier prix de la Biennale Interaméricaine d’art vidéo de la BIA à Washington, et A story of Johan a gagné le prix de la direction photographique au festival El Espejo de 2008. En plus de se consacrer à la réalisation, l’écriture et la production, il a été professeur universitaire en direction cinématographique.
