Note of intent
Colombia is pursuing peace. The people who were part of leftist groups and the guerrillas have not told their stories yet. This country needs to listen more to its different voices and ideologies. The struggles of the left have changed along the conflict; new struggles start to brew from different places. I am the daughter of a militant family, and as a young person, I experience the world from the sexual diversity and gender perspective fights. I am interested in the shifting of generational paradigms, and difficulty to be homosexual.
Synopsis
In 2005, my parents decided to tell us one of the most important stories of their lives: during their youth, in the 70s, they participated in leftist political groups, first publicly and then, as these ideas became dangerous in a corrupt country, they decided to go clandestine. One day, without planning it, I kissed a girl. Then, I told my parents that I liked girls besides boys. The family crisis was imminent, and the following days were filled with questions left up in the air, my parents asking themselves if they had given us a good education, It was at that time that my father was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease, a central nervous system disease that reduces the production of dopamine, the hormone that helps make neuronal connections which give the body satisfaction and mobility. This film portraits our struggles that share the idea of unconformity.
Visual concept
This film project is build as an autobiographical essay documentary. There will be a plastic exploration with the images and a voice-over that will articulate the main ideas. I´ll use images recorded with a home movie camera, archives, direct conversations, filmed letters, photographs and drawings (some of them animated in 2D), creating a mixed audiovisual piece that will allow me to add brushstrokes, like a painter on a canvas, and tell a story made up with memories, dreams and manifestos that will draw different daily life moments.
