Note of intent

“The Stained Man” depicts my uncle as an ambivalent protagonist. At times, you discover a child-like, misunderstood person with a profound desire to connect and be loved. But at other moments, you confront a violent individual whose inability to adapt to social norms, ends up hurting his loved ones. I want to explore two narrative threads: Sergio’s hunting obsession and his inner struggle to find solace. These are woven in this recluse’s journey from the bunker to the city, and emotionally, from his bubble to the chaotic life he left behind.

Synopsis

Sergio is a hermit who has abandoned his family and the comforts of society to live in a bunker in the wilderness. His desire for solitude and disdain for humans drove him to hole up and find solace. He spends his days alone in the jungle hunting jaguars. After developing health problems, Sergio confronts the possibility of seeking treatment in the city or dying in complete isolation. “The Stained Man” is a docu-fiction that explores the solitary pursuit of a recluse for an elusive peace of mind.

Visual concept

“The Stained Man” is a docu-fiction that takes advantage of its particular format. Its documentary aspect portrays a visceral and unfiltered world with authentic characters and real environments. However, its fictional counterpart fabricates a narrative with a distinct visual aesthetic and a cinematographic montage that avoids any kind of documentary nuance.

Objectives sought in Films in Development

Our main goal is to use the to find international financing, most specifically for the post-production phase, which is our most expensive stage. Even though the film happens in Costa Rica, I believe that its appeal is universal. It has visually rich environments from the claustrophobic bunker to the vast tropical jungle. It depicts a unique world with an original character. Furthermore, given the film’s minimalist production model, production costs are low, so it is a viable project. The project is still in its development phase, so it would be beneficial to meet various industry members from different backgrounds to see how they perceive the film and its potential. We are open to feedback.
