Note of intent
“This job really turned me bad,” I was told by a friend who is an educator, years ago. His story affected me deeply. This is the untold story of how a young educator must adapt to the unexpected violence of a youth prison: it doesn’t come from the young inmates, but from her own colleagues. I wish to explore the mechanism by which violence reproduces itself in a place that is supposedly there to reform, the mechanism of institutional silence, the limits of good and bad, and the possibility of managing to stay healthy in an unhealthy place.
Synopsis
At a juvenile detention center, a young, idealistic educator is harassed by her colleagues. When the circle of violence closes in and she has nowhere to turn, a young detainee nicknamed “the Devil” offers to make her a deal.
Visual concept
Visually, the majority of the film takes place between sunset and dawn, behind closed doors, between the detention facility and the educator’s home. The image, which is fed by expressionism, along with the sound design and music, which ranges from electro-acoustic to metal, will compose an oppressive space without an escape, where the characters’ moral conflicts will resonate.
