The concept of vigilantism, coming from the US, is on the rise in France. It reflects the impression that law enforcement forces are not enough to ensure our safety. But also, it is the outcome of feelings of insecurity and injustice which are constantly stirred up, just as if we were still living in a “barbaric” country. My story implies that an intensified need for safety ends up creating its own monsters and also that it is best to learn to live with our fears rather than to try to hedge against them.
