Basilio returns to his old home after many years, only to discover that the humble abode has been consumed by the passage of time. Even so, his Mother (Elmira) has been waiting for him. Separated in life by violence, they understand that they are only being reunited now that they are dead, and thus decide to set off towards heaven in search of the Father and the promised land. This is how Mother and Son, now ghosts, begin a physical and spiritual journey in which they will recreate the story of their family and of the violence they endured, crossing a world devastated by the horrors of war with destroyed villages, processions with countless coffins, rivers turned cemeteries and stories of desolation and death. All of this was caused by Basilio, in life a savage criminal, now condemned to relive over and over the horror of his actions but this time carrying his crippled mother throughout the entire journey.  In this empty world where God is present in the silence, they will bear witness to how war not only destroys bodies but also spirits.

Sandra and Mariana are cousins, their past comes to light when they come back to live together in the same house where they grew up. Sandra, aged 35, is a black woman with dark skin. Mariana, aged 34, is a light-skinned black woman. Ivone, Sandra’s mother, worked as a resident maid for Mariana’s family. Sandra challenges the romanticized version that Mariana has of their history, which ignores that Sandra, even as a child, worked in the house with her mother. When Mariana loses her job, she decides to take over the housework. Gradually, their roles and the social hierarchy are reversed: Sandra is taking over the house and getting hold of Mariana's things. To break the cycle of oppression, they will need to understand their differences and recognize themselves as equal.

Manuel Rijtman (23), a freelance photographer, and Burt Rodriguez (42), are both immersed in the pursuit of a strange photographer, Sergio Larrain (66), who decided some years ago to leave behind everything that he had achieved, primarily, a brilliant career in leading European magazines and in the most renowned photographic agency in the world, Magnum, to go and live as a hermit in a remote village of Valle del Elqui in the north of Chile. What moves Rodriguez is to find a supposed picture of God taken by Larraín that an important collector wants to buy for his private collection, no matter how much can cost while Rijtman¨s personal motivation is to find out a track linking the existence of Larraín with his missing father.

Four young adults live happily together: Maya, Miguel, Pedro and Diego. The boys keep fit by playing soccer, while Maya sells her cupcakes. Their relationship seems to be based on love and trust, but actually they are together by the need to get anti-HIV medicine. They are not aware of their bounds fragility, until an outsider shows up. Leandro is a very intelligent guy, obsessed by a man on television in charge of the weather forecast. One day, he discovers Miguel playing soccer with the rest of the group. Miguel looks like the weatherman. Leandro decides to infiltrate the group in order to get closer to him. He pays attention to each member’s role and realizes how to manipulate them according to their needs. In the end, Miguel leaves Maya to be with Leandro and the group is torn apart. However, Leandro's intentions are not based on love either.

The equilibrium times in the world of the half (Mid-Kingdom) seem to be ending. The Middle Kingdom (the Kitu Karas) until now had flourished in peace and harmony, now they saw the signs of an apocalyptic future. The dark forces of the Southern Empire are approaching, traveling through entire villages, seeking conquests, seizing the fertile lands and, above all, the knowledge of this people.

The blinded desire of killing his father leads Eliú to kill a man by mistake. Now, thoughtful, he wanders around the luxurious vegetation that grows inside the ruins of a conspicuous abandoned farm. He and other teenagers wander around the place and inhabit it as the new headquarters for the imprisonment center they belong to. Under the gaze of the hostile rules of those who watch over him, Eliú spends his days immersed in the dense vegetation.

He can only find relief from the monotony during his mother’s visits, but she has stopped visiting him due to the cancer from which she suffers. He tries to capture a vulture; he believes that the animal’s blood can heal his mother’s cancer.

Upon suspecting that his father has returned home and that his mother is in danger, he tries to flees from the detention center abruptly and put end to the hatred that tears apart his soul.

Rape will be the only survivor, insane, alone, the oldest kid in the world. The Kings of the World is a fantasy story, anarchic, a journey to nowhere, where anything can happen. A tale of ambition, in search of a Promised Land.

His whereabouts remain a mystery kept by sugarcane crops and paddies, fertile ground for the culture of nourishments and horrors. But life keeps going, and we had to keep going without him. 25 years later, a dream awakes the urge to unearth the story and to explore absence as concept and reality within our immediate surroundings. This film written by two sisters, focuses on creating correlations and contrasts between dream and reality, rather than focusing on perpetrators and victims, revealing the significant aftermath of absence on the relatives of those who have been vanished. Will they ever come back? is a story that pursues experimental fields. Epiphanies, revelations and dreams serve as vehicles to journey through an alien land that knows no satisfaction when it comes to devouring people.

"Sleeping dogs under the water" talks about Maria’s internal journey. After Maria‘s mother tried to commit suicide for the fourth time, Maria’s ordinary life changes. She has no other option but taking care of the mother. She will escape some days to the south of Chile to visit her father, who means “home” for her. She must also confront her unfinished relationships and her inability to finish the translation of "Der gute mensch von Sezuan", a Berthold Brecht book that talks about the impossibility to do goodness in this world.

From North to South of Mexico, from the swamps of Veracruz to the deserts of Coahuila, from the industrial cities of the Bajío to the jungle of Guerrero, Ana María, Juan Carlos, Xochitl and Concepción are looking for a daughter, a brother, a father who disappeared without leaving any trace. They dig in the clandestine graves, investigate in the red districts, confront the corrupted authorities, and are constantly threatened by delinquents. They try, step by step, to show their fellow citizens the tragedy they are living aside with at least 30,000 other families. Thanks to that new family they are creating, made of seekers, of missing people, they manage to reconstruct  the Mexican social network. In fact, they are sure of one thing: from the clandestine graves in which they are looking for their loved ones will rise the hope of a fairest and peaceful Mexico.
